FBI: jobs portal breach with source still unknown, hackers claim employee data taken

The FBI has formally classified a data theft affecting current and former personnel as a "cyber security incident." The designation, which is circulating through internal notices to staff, is the first time the Bureau has officially described the breach in those terms. It comes almost a week after the extortion group ShinyHunters began publicly claiming it had breached FBIJobs.gov, the Bureau's job-application portal, and taken personal records belonging to employees, agents, and applicants. The FBI has not confirmed how much data the group says it took.
